Macmillans Coffee week
(23rd - 27th September)
Thank you to all the patients and staff who got involved in baking and donating for Macmillans Coffee morning. We raised £73.17
Last year Macmillan raised an astonishing £26,914,382 and this year they hope to raise this amount even more. Cancer continues to effect so many people in the UK and globally, but through the struggles Cancer can cause, Macmillan is there to support you as an individual and others who have been affected. To raise money to Macmillan means they can continue to support many people with advice and resources.
In an exciting and innovative initiative, the Royal College of General Practitioners is collaborating with Parkrun UK to promote health and well-being of staff and patients - therefore we are proud to announce that we are now a Parkrun Practice!
What does this mean? The practice will take part in weekly Parkrun's to promote health and well-being for both staff and patients.
What's a Park Run? It is a 5km run at your local Park (Avenham) every Saturday morning at 9:00am - or there is a 2k Junior run for 4-14yr olds and their families on Sunday Mornings.
What does it cost me to join? Nothing - it's free! but, you must register before your first run as you'll have to print off a barcode specifically for you - this allows the Parkrun team to upload your results to their website if you wish.
So please, come on down and join us for a run, walk or even just to cheer us on.

2019 - The year you exercise more?
North Preston Medical Practice have teamed up with Fulwood Leisure Centre to offer our patients a number of ways to increase the amount of exercise they do in 2019 - which couldn't be better timed after the Christmas excesses!
Patients simply need to call and ask for a FREE day pass and they will then be able to use all of the facilities on their chosen date.
Following this 'taster' patients can self-refer themselves and access a 12-week programme if they meet the following criteria;
Via Active Lives: Physical activity service
Criteria - You currently do less than 150 minutes of activity each week
Via Exercise on prescription:
Criteria - Have an existing health condition (high BP, diabetes, bone or joint problems) – exclusions include unstable angina, resting systolic BP over 180mmHg, resting diastolic BP over 100mmHg, uncontrolled tachycardia over 100bpm, unstable or acute heart failure, unstable diabetes, unstable arrhythmia, recent embolism, thrombophlebitis, active pericarditis or myocarditis, newly diagnosed angina.
Via EnABLe: community adult weight management programme
Criteria - BMI between 25 and 35 (Not below 25 or above 35)

Dementia Friends Champion
In view of Dementia Action Week (20 - 26th May 2019), the Alzheimer's Society are asking people to join in and help those with Dementia by making a difference. A Dementia Friends Champion is a volunteer who encourages others to make a positive difference to people living with dementia in their community. They do this by giving them information about the personal impact of dementia, and what they can do to help.

Wednesday evening clinics @ Broadway Surgery
From Wednesday 3rd July 2019, our Assistant Practitioners, Aimie & Alicia will be holding evening clinics each Wednesday between 18:30 - 21:00 at our Broadway Surgery.
The reception team are able to book you in for your NHS Health Check, Annual & 6 monthly Health reviews, Results, Carers & Cancer reviews, Blood Pressure Check and New Patient Check. Please note that the phone lines will be turned off at 18:30 but you are welcome to come in to the surgery as normal until 21:00.

Training Days for Doctors & Staff
For educational purposes, the Surgery closes once a month on a Tuesday afternoon at 13:00 for the training of Doctors & staff. During this time, you can contact the increased access hub who are able to offer a range of urgent and pre-bookable appointments with a GP or Nurse. They can be contacted on 01772 529200. Please note that reception staff working at the hub do not have access to your full medical records and therefore will not be able to answer any questions on referrals, prescriptions or test results. You will be able to contact us as normal the next working day at 8:00am.

Staff at the locality clinics will provide a range of appointments from Practice Nurses who will be available to provide chronic disease reviews, cervical screening and childhood immunisations along with pre-bookable GP and other Health Care Professional appointments. The majority of the Increased Access appointments are held at Penwortham St Mary's and Briarwood Medical Centre. The appointments are with Locum clinicians including our very own Dr Joanne Murray and Dr Nidghtta Anjan.

Please note that once hub availability is full you may be directed to an alternative service.
Please also be aware that the administrative staff working at the locality surgeries do not have access to patients full medical records and therefore will not be able to answer queries on referrals, prescriptions, test results, private work and entries to medical records.
If you are looking for a weekend appointment, please contact our reception team who can help arrange this for you.
In a genuine emergency you should call 999. Chest pains and/or shortness of breath constitute and emergency.
Are you up to date with your vaccinations?
If you’re going to College or University, be sure to be up to date. Before leaving school, you should have had the following vaccinations:
Five doses of the diphtheria, tetanus and polio containing vaccine.
A single dose of the MenACWY vaccine after the age of 10 yrs.
Two doses of the MMR vaccine.
Two doses of the HPV vaccine (for girls only)
If you are unsure whether you are up to date, just contact the surgery who will be able to let you know and fit you in for your catch up vaccinations if needs be.
Yellow Fever Vaccination
Please be advised that since 30th November 2017, we are no longer a registered Yellow Fever Centre and hence, we will not be able to provide this vaccination to patients.
If you wish to obtain a Yellow Fever vaccination, you can search for the nearest one by entering the first part of your postcode (e.g PR2) at https://nathnacyfzone.org.uk/search-centres.
Parking at Broadway Surgery & Ingol Health Centre
Broadway Surgery: We have been advised that patients parking on the adjacent car park, which is owned by the businesses occupying 333 Garstang Road (Sole & Beauty, AM1 Hair, Ginger Bistro and Another Boquet), will be issed with a £100 parking ticket, which will be reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days.
We want to make it clear that we had no influence in this decision, which has been taken by the above named businesses in order to try and protect their private land. Therefore, we are unable to take on any patient complaints regarding tickets that are issued. We would strongly urge patients to park on local residential roads in permissible area.
Ingol Health Centre: We have a car park on site, however outside the entrance is a bay with double yellow lines, please ensure you do not park here - this will result in a parking ticket from the local Council.
Online Access - Are you ready to take matters into your own hands?
Online access gives you the option to book/cancel GP appointments, order your prescriptions and view parts of your medical records all from the comfort of your own home, or out and about. If this is something you're interested in, please head to our online services section where you'll find more information on how you can sign up.
Care Data Service
The NHS is changing and services are being restructured. These reforms will impact on the way that clinical data are collected, shared and analysed. Under the powers of Health and Social Care ACT 2012 (HSCA), the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) can, under certain circumstances, require Personal Confidential Data (PCD) from GP practices without seeking patient consent. One of the first initiatives using these new powers is the care data service.
Care Quality Commission (CQC) Inspection
Following the improvements that the practice made in order to achieve the rating of 'Good' at our CQC inspection in May 2017, as part of that process the practice was re-inspected on 9th October 2018 and the CQC were delighted to see that we had not only maintained that good work, but they also cited a couple of areas of outstanding practice - our use of I.T. to improve the systems within the practice and also our use of adapted templates within our clinical system.
This is a recognition of all the hard work that the practice team puts in every day to ensure our patients are provided with the service they deserve.
A big "thank you" goes to the 48 patients who completed one of the CQC feedback cards, which were posted into the sealed postbox in reception in the week leading up to the inspection - 44 contained solely positive comments, 4 were mixed and none contained solely negative comments.
Finally, we would also like to thank the members of our PPG Group who were supportive as ever during the inspection.
